Whether you love or hate Phil Hellmuth, it’s hard to argue with his latest cause: the Holdem for Heroes charity. For once he’s putting his big mouth to good use by hosting the charity’s annual celebrity tournament which is scheduled to take place in Arizona on November 19-21 at the Fort McDowell Casino.

William Shane Anderson, a thirty-nine year-old resident of Middletown, Delaware, was sentenced to one year of probation after pleading guilty to conducting a non-state-sanctioned gambling game and state income tax evasion. Local police arrested Mr. Anderson in February 2008 after they received complaints from neighbors about the numerous vehicles parked near his residence

The US Court of Appeals recently ruled that the state of Delaware must comply with a federal ban on legalized sports gambling. When the state announced that it wanted to offer single-game wagering to residents, the leaders of Major League Baseball, the National Football League, the National Basketball Association, the National Hockey League and the National Collegiate Athletic Administration all came out in opposition to the new law.

A Canadian man who opened several US-based bank accounts to process online gaming profits for US customers is facing federal bank fraud and money laundering charges.
The four major North American professional sports leagues and the National Collegiate Athletic Association have joined in filing an injunction with a federal judge against plans by the state of Delaware to allow for sports betting. The commissioners of Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association, the National Football League and the National Hockey League claim that Delaware’s plan to allow for single-game betting will erode spectators’ trust in the integrity of the results.
Proving that old dogs can learn new tricks, longtime Seven-card Stud expert Jeffrey Lisandro has thus far added three 2009 WSOP bracelets and six cashes to his arsenal of awards, and the Iceman’s not done yet. Even as individual states open their doors to expanded gambling opportunities, the United States government continues to resist change. Longtime online gambling supporter Congressman Barney Frank was set to lead hearings on his bills HR 2266 and HR 2267 later this month, but earlier this week the Poker Players Alliance announced that the House Financial Services Committee has pushed the hearings back until September. read more
