The US Court of Appeals recently ruled that the state of Delaware must comply with a federal ban on legalized sports gambling. When the state announced that it wanted to offer single-game wagering to residents, the leaders of Major League Baseball, the National Football League, the National Basketball Association, the National Hockey League and the National Collegiate Athletic Administration all came out in opposition to the new law.

Looks like poker night is back on for thousands of card-loving South Carolina residents. After five poker buddies fell victim to an “unlawful gambling” raid in one of their homes, outraged citizens, concerned poker industry professionals, and some of the state’s more rational senators worked together to design and present South Carolina Senate Bills 535 and 628. Last week both bills passed the state’s Senate Judiciary Committee.

The Delaware state senate acted rapidly yesterday to sanction a bill legalizing sports gambling. Governor Jack Markell’s anticipated approval remains the final step before the new bill becomes law. United States congressman Barney Frank will put forward a bill on Wednesday aimed undoing the current legal framework for online gambling in the US. According to Frank’s office and the language of the proposed legislation, licensed and regulated operators would be exempt from the 2006 ban, or UIGEA. Congressman Frank said that the bill “will enable Americans to bet online and put an end to an inappropriate interference with their personal freedom.” read more
