Blotter: Court overturns Delaware sportsbetting law

The US Court of Appeals recently ruled that the state of Delaware must comply with a federal ban on legalized sports gambling. When the state announced that it wanted to offer single-game wagering to residents, the leaders of Major League Baseball, the National Football League, the National Basketball Association, the National Hockey League and the National Collegiate Athletic Administration all came out in opposition to the new law.

Tournament: European Poker Tour opens in Kiev

As a consequence of the recent ruling by Russian sports officials that poker should not be considered a “sport”, organizers for the European Poker Tour were forced to make arrangements to relocate the event. They found a welcome host site at the Palace of Sports in Kiev, Ukraine, more than four hundred and fifty miles away from their original site.

Blotter: Sports leagues seek court order to stop Delaware betting

The four major North American professional sports leagues and the National Collegiate Athletic Association have joined in filing an injunction with a federal judge against plans by the state of Delaware to allow for sports betting. The commissioners of Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association, the National Football League and the National Hockey League claim that Delaware’s plan to allow for single-game betting will erode spectators’ trust in the integrity of the results.

Australian poker pro Jeffrey Lisandro earned his third bracelet of this year’s World Series and the fourth of his career when he won the US$2,500 buy-in Seven Card Razz event. In addition to his wins at the US$1,500 buy-in Seven Card Stud Hi event and the US$10,000 buy-in World Championship Seven Card Stud Hi/Lo Eight or Better tournament, Lisandro has garnered titles in each of the major varieties of Seven Card Stud.
